Miley Cyrus wins first ever Grammy for ‘Flowers’
Miley Cyrus won her first GRAMMY Award to cap off the biggest night in music history. A golden gramophone was awarded to the eight-time candidate for Best Pop Solo Performance for her performance of “Flowers.”
Pop sensation Miley Cyrus created a lot of memorable moments throughout the evening, including what seemed like four clothing changes between the red carpet and the stage and a towering brown bouffant reminiscent of Dolly Parton. Despite two prior nominations, a string of successful albums, and 11 Top 10 songs spanning 17 years, Cyrus didn’t have any GRAMMYs when she came to the 66th Grammy Awards, which made her two victories all the more remarkable.
The hit song “Flowers,” which won Best Pop Solo Performance and Record of the Year, put an end to the Grammy drought and cemented Cyrus’ status as one of the most renowned pop performers of the year.
Even as an experienced singer, the former teen sensation found it difficult to perform “Flowers” in front of a star-studded audience as she walked the stage at the 66th GRAMMY Awards. It was evident from her playful inquiry to the whole room—and apparently to viewers at home as well—that Cyrus would feel at ease in that spotlight: “Why are you acting like you don’t know this song?”
Even though she was beaming and almost awestruck when she finally won a Grammy, the easy jokes didn’t end there. She shouted, “I might’ve forgotten underwear, but I don’t think I forgot anyone… bye!” as she zipped offstage wearing her brand-new Grammy hardware.
