In an Instagram post from Wednesday, February 28, the controversial rapper said that he was changing his handle. He included a screenshot of a direct message he had with popular online personality Justin Laboy.

He stated, “I’m closing my Kanye West Instagram account,” in the screenshot. Ye is my nаme. I won’t be forced to identify with what brands or numbers want me to be.

“Nаme being changed to Ye on insta shortly,” wrote Yeezy as the description for the photo.

The caption on the post was later trimmed from its original length. “Someone has Ye as an account. I would like to have my nаme so I can change my account to my legal nаme,” it said at first. He included a screenshot of a text message interaction between Laboy, himself, and a third unidentified person in a follow-up post.
