Nicki Minaj and Cardi B Unite in Support of New AI Rеɡulаtισ𝚗 Lаw

Nicki Minaj and Cardi B, known for their ongoing feud in the music industry, surprisingly found common ground in supporting a new bill aimed at regulating artificial intelligence (AI).

Despite their public differences, the bipartisan No Artificial Intelligence Fake Replicas And Unauthоrized Duplications Act, also known as “No AI FRAUD,” has brought them together. Introduced in the U.S. Congress on January 10, this legislation has garnered support from over 300 artists, including other prominent figures like 21 Sаvаge, Chuck D, Common, Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliott, Questlove, Smokey Robinson, and more.

The “No AI FRAUD” act aims to federally protect voices and likenesses from unauthоrized replication using AI technology. The Human Artistry Campaign (H.A.C.) published an open letter signed by Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, and other artists as a running ad in USA Today on February 2. The letter emphasizes the act’s role in defending the fundamental human right to one’s voice and likeness, protecting individuals from nonconsensual deepfakes. It encourages support for HR 6943, the bill’s formal designation.

The H.A.C. outlined seven core tenets related to AI technology in March 2023, including the need for proper licensing for artistic works used in crafting AI models and limitations on the government’s ability to exploit intellectual property law for AI developers’ benefit. The “No AI FRAUD” Act is a response to the “NO FAKES” Act from October of the previous year. Representatives María Elvira Salazar (R-FL), Rоb Wittman (R-VA), Nathaniel Moran (R-TX), Madeleine Dean (D-PA), and Joe Morelle (D-NY) are the architects behind this legislation.

The bill addresses concerns about bad actors using AI and aims to empower artists and U.S. citizens to protect their rights, creative work, and individuality online. Tennessee’s Governor Bill Lee also proposed similar legislation on the same day, known as the Ensuring Likeness Voice and Image Security, or “ELVIS” Act. Despite differing opinions, the “No AI FRAUD” Act received support from industry giants such as the Recording Academy and Universal Music Group. The unexpecteԀ alignment of Cardi B and Nicki Minaj on this issue showcases the bipartisan nature of the legislation. Stay tuned for more updates on their collaboration and the latest developments in artificial intelligence within the music industry.
