Pardison Fontaine Views Cardi B as a Social Media Trailblazer
Pardison Fontaine regards Cardi B as a “trailblazer” on social media and a catalyst for both artists and fans to freely express their thoughts and opinions.
In an interview with Complex, Pardi was asked about previously calling Cardi a “marketing genius,” pointing out her impact on the social media landscape over the past decade.
Fontaine stated, “I always say this, she’s going to be a star no matter what she chooses to do. She really pioneered in the energy you see on the internet today. She was the first to pick up her phone and really start talking with it. She created it from her own iPhone. No regrets about herself.”
Fontaine also recalled an incident after the release of his single “Oyyy” in 2013, where the Bronx sensation independently used her social media presence to promote the song to a larger audience.
“When I first came out, I had this song called ‘Oyyy,'” Pardi began. “Out of nowhere, just because she’s my friend, she shot a video on her Instagram at a gas station and jumped to the song, vibing to it. And it was like a Honda Sonata or something, just a regular car.
“And people were just commenting like, ‘Oh, why is she pumping gas,’ [or] ‘Why is she buying this car? That’s the car she has,’ and I’m like, ‘Oh, that’s genius.’ I couldn’t do that myself. It’s either genius or she’s always lucky.”
Pardison Fontaine and Cardi B have built a strong personal and professional relationship, with Pardi helping the former dancer and reality TV star create the multi-platinum debut album “Invasion of Privacy,” released in 2018. In the same year, Cardi appeared alongside Fontaine on the single “Backin’ It Up,” which entered the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
