Drake unfollowed Metro Boomin on Instagram after the producer criticized him for Her Loss’ success.
Metro has complained that Drake’s collaboration with 21 Savage, Her Loss, wins honors over Heroes & Villains.
Drake no longer follows Metro on Instagram. Metro still follows Drake on the platform.
After Metro Boomin was informed that Heroes & Villains had more streams in a year (3.7 billion) than any other rap album since 2018 and had more than twice the daily streaming of Her Loss, the apparent schism began.
Metro tweeted, “Yet Her Loss keeps winning rap album of the year over H&V. I am not interested in award shows because they are political.
“Idc about awards honestly, the true award and REWARD is knowing that the music I spend so much time on brings joy to people everyday.”
Drake responded to Metro on Instagram Stories by referencing JAY-Z’s “Heart of the City (Ain’t No Love)”: “Damn, little mans, I’m just tryin’ to do me/ If the record’s two mil, I’ll move three.”
Metro is recognized as producer on “More M’s” and has created Drake songs including “Jumpman” and “Knife Talk.” His complaints with Her Loss are peculiar.
Two collaborative albums with 21 Savage show his tight bond with the Atlanta rapper.
The breakup may have been caused by Metro removing Drake from his Heroes & Villains hit “Trance,” which featured Travis Scott and Young Thug.
The Grammy nominee told DJ Drama last year that the 6 Gods’ contribution made the song strong enough.
“Really, it was a song I did with Travis and Thug, originally for my album,” he explained. I was in the studio with Drake once to work on my album. In search of my album’s songs, he heard that one.
“He wanted to get on it, but I told him it was final. I just wanted it that way. ‘Bro, I ain’t selling you no dream. I’m stuck there. After hitting me, he said, ‘Let me see if you could add to it.’ ‘If you don’t like it, then whatever.’”
The super-producer added: “He did some stuff, a couple parts was cool, but I just felt like even with Slime verse, Trav verse, and outro, it wasn’t just no room. It was not personal. Maybe the other one leaked, so I used the original.”
The song with Drake’s rap leaked online.
